Stephen Baldauf was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Even in his youth it was clear that he was a natural-born artist. Stephen has trained all his life at Chicago universities and art schools, and through private training and seminars.
In his early years as a professional artist, he worked in sculpture as well as painting. In 1978, Stephen was a featured artist in the Chicago, earning accolades as one of “Chicago’s Emerging Artists”. In his 27-year career, he has displayed his work in over 1000 exhibits and has received over 100 awards.
Creating paintings and multimedia images with traditional themes, Stephen has a contemporary style. Working on gallery wrapped canvas, he starts with a heavy textured acrylic paint. He then adds found items, like paper images, and embeds them into the paint. Then he adds oil paint on top of the final image, and seals the work with a gloss varnish which protects the canvas, and gives it an old-world glow.
