< ![endif]–>Traveling to new locations, new adventures has fascinated me since I was a child. For me, a change of landscape is an invitiation to re-examine my vision. My art reveals itself as a puzzle of forms, celebrated in a variety of colors and textures, methodically patchworked to create the landscapes that define my life.
I start my one-of-a-kind pieces with thumbnail sketches and small color studies, then draw distinctly edged images with a utility knife on archival boards and build dimension by layering these pieces. In drawing, I aim for expressive energy, movement and whimsy. I add tiled areas built up from my own painted, hand-cut and laid ragboard pieces. Tree forms play a vital role as stationary beings that relate to each other and to the viewer. When enhanced by intense color and lively painting, the places I render recall either unique or imagined experiences in my life. Everything from start to finish, including the frame, is done solely by me.
Horizons in the distance describe my wanderlust, while pathways and thresholds direct my possibilities. The people I meet and places I travel infuse my work and, together, explain where I have been and who I have become. My hope is that my life journey will be filled with the unexpected and that there will always be yet another roadway for me to venture.
