Woods, GlennI take most of my inspiration from imagery found in nature by creating texture that resembles reptile skin, distressed wood, shells, or horns and sometimes taking impressions directly from the natural objects such as leaves, tree bark, and other natural materials.

All of my work is either wheel thrown and altered or a combination of thrown and hand built pieces. I use cone 6 white stoneware or cone 10 porcelain which is then glazed to enhance the existing texture or incorporate a glaze that creates a visual texture. The cone 10 porcelain pieces are glazed with crystalline and aventurine glazes which grow crystals in the glaze layer during the firing cycle. These crystals add a depth and magic to the glaze which is enhanced when viewed in direct sun or another strong source of light.
